Applies to: Everyone
If you have been given access to IRM-protected Microsoft Excel documents, you may be able to perform a limited number of actions that will allow you to perform ad hoc analysis on these documents.
To perform ad hoc analysis, you must display the document in Intralinks' browser-based Secure Viewer; this analysis cannot be performed in Microsoft Excel. Exchange managers determine whether this capability is available in each exchange that they manage.
Note: The changes you make are temporary; they will be erased when you close the browser tab containing the worksheet you are working with. If the exchange allows the document to be downloaded, any changes you have made will be erased before the document is downloaded.
I want to
- Manipulate data in protected spreadsheets to explore "what-if" scenarios
Steps
You can manipulate data only in Microsoft Excel documents with .xls and .xlsx extensions. No changes can be made to other protected document types. A ribbon bar similar to the one found in Microsoft Excel appears at the top of the document. You can use the tools in the ribbon bar to make changes as you would in Excel.
You can perform the following tasks:
- Easily navigate through the entire document, across different sheets. You can group and ungroup data based on your needs or freeze panes to more easily visualize data.
- Resize columns, rows and look into the contents of a cell, including viewing the formulas used for calculations.
- Insert new columns, rows and sheets for your own calculations.
- Add your own formulas using data from the document.
- Make changes to fonts and text alignment, wrap text and merge cells.
- Change the formatting of cells (text, date, numbers, accounting, etc.) to meet your needs.
- Change the format and layout of cells and tables.
- Search, filter, find and replace across the entire document.
Create charts and tables, and insert images into the document.
- Run macros in IRM-protected Excel documents if you have a Manager Plus, Hidden Manager Plus, Manager, Manager Limited, or Publisher Plus role.
You cannot perform the following actions:
- Save changes using either the Save or Save As command.
- Copy data from the document.
- Print the document.
